Book desription: New York: Doubleday, Doran and Company Inc, 1928 Tisza Tales by Rosika Schwimmer Illustrations by Willy Pogany First U.S. Edition 1928 - PRESENTATION COPY. Published by Doubleday, Doran and Company Inc, the original boards have a design and lettering in gilt to the front board. The boards are in Good condition with light marks to the front board; wear to the edge of the spine; fading to the spine; small loss to the top and bottom of the spine; rubbing to the back board; hinge of the front board is broken (though still attached) making the front free endpaper loose but still attached; and light corner knocks. As you open the book you are met with a wonderful dark blue on green silhouette double page illustration by Pogany. There is some age toning and the original owner's name neatly applied to the front free endpaper (top left); otherwise very clean and attractive. After the illustrated Half Title Page is the inscription and signature that reads: "To my pal Nick Willy Pogany 1928" There are 225 numbered pages with 8 colour plates as per the list at the beginning of the book and numerous black and white illustrations throughout this stunning book The pages are in overall Very Good condition being extremely clean with very minor age toning mainly confined to the edges of the pages. This is a rare signed first edition that rarely appears for sale in very good order - you may want to have the minor repairs carried out to the boards or have them replaced with luxurious leather binding to further enhance the value of this beautiful and rare first edition book.
