Book desription: London: Chapman and Hall, 1906. The National Edition, Limited to 750 copies. Complete in 40 volumes, large 8vo. Contemporary dark green half morocco the spines showing gilt raised bands, titles in gilt to second, third and fourth compartments, author's initials beautifully stylised in gilt with surrounding gilt decorative tooling to the other compartments; green cloth boards; green end papers; top edges gilt, others rough trimmed. Title pages in black and white. Decorated throughout with plates on india paper from the original illustrations, with tissue guard. Additionally, included with each title issued thus are a facsimile of the cover of the issue in Monthly Parts and of the cover for the People's Edition with tissue guards. Spines faded to brown, mostly evenly; marking to boards; a few corners bumped; bookplate to paste downs; three volumes expertly bound to style by Trevor Lloyd, unnoticeable from the others; some occasional foxing. A sound set, beautifully produced and in a superb contemporary leather binding.
