A Collection of Photographs and a Film from the Second World War in Slovakia with Jozef Tiso as President by 217 Photographs Size 8/12 to 13/18cm, Vintage Prints and a 16mm Film
This group of photographs come from Pavol Poljak's estate. They were shot in Slovakia (after the Czechoslovakian partition), during the presidency of Jozef Tiso, who was an ally to Hitler and participated in the deportation of Slovakian jews. He was caught, condemned and hung in 1947. 217 photographs all related to these events, and three other documents : 5 photographs showing the Carlton Hotel in Bratislava and a street with flags of the nazi nationalist party (swastika emblem). 2 photographs showing Hitler visiting Bratislava. 19 photographs showing dignitaries of the Slovakian Nationalist Party meeting an hungarian delegation at the Bratislava airport, in military uniforms. 22 photographs showing a crowd of nationalists in uniform, decorations, religious ceremonies, Jozef Tiso giving a speech, the burrial of a person of rank, his body is exposed on the Narodny Divadlo (?) square. 7 photographs showing Josef Tiso in various circumstances, military parades, meetings etc. 20 photographs showing the popular meeting organised by the state for the 5th anniversary of the Slovakian Independance Day in 1944. Various folk costumes visible. 27 photographs showing the bombing of Bratislava by the allies'aviation (1944?) 9 photographs showing the jewish community in Bratislava : jewish quarter, synagogue, the Dunajska Sreda synagogue. 24 photographs showing a big popular meeting along the Danube (military uniforms visible). 6 photographs showing nazi slovakian officers in uniform. 6 photographs showing people in uniform or not in front of the Omnipol building (Slovakian Omnipol ?) 14 photographs showing a nationalist meeting, officers in uniform, catholic dignitaries in nazi military caps. 23 photographs showing nationalists and nazis in uniform or not. 26 photographs showing a meeting after the war (Benes visiting ?) 10 color chromes showing a mass with some military personnel in the assistance. There is also a 16mm film (3,5 minutes) probably shot in 1948-1950, showing a demonstration in the spring (April-May), people and trucks with banners, slogans, Stalin's portrait, and the political leaders of the country, .
