Book Description

London, Sydney, Toronto: The Bodley Head, 1984. First Edition. Decorative Cloth. Fine/Very Good. Maurice Sendak. This copy is signed by Maurice Sendak, in 1984, the year that the book was published. A wonderfully presented book which presents Maurice Sendak's set and costume design for a version of The Love for Three Oranges which was put on at Glyndbourne in 1982 under the direction of Frank Corsaro. The book goes through each of the acts with an associated 'script' of the conversations that took place between Sendak and Corsaro as they built up the production. Sendak's colour illustrations are on every page. Maurice Sendak won the Hans Christian Andersen Award for book illustration in 1970 and the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award for illustration in 1983. Beige cloth boards with a rust coloured illustration of Punchinello on both boards with gilt lettering to backstrip. In original clear cover, which can't really be described as a dust jacket, but it protects the cloth well. Unpaginated. Lovely end papers, fully illustrated in colour showing the storyboard for the production. Fine. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
