Upper cover ruled in blind and lettered in gilt, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. Some light thumb staining and occasional very light foxing. Overall, an exceptional copy. Plates in fine condition.Vernet's celebrated battle scenes are specially esteemed for their unusually skillful depiction of horses. Included in this volume is one of his most celebrated works "Bataille de Marengo" (plate 28), as well as his other works of considerable success and interest, such as the "Bataille d'Austerlitz" (plate 39) and the "Bombardement de Madrid" (plate 48).
