Book description: New York, Boston: H.M. Caldwell Co.. 1908. First Edition. Decorative Cloth. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall Splendid first editon. No jacket. Cover is dark red cloth with Indian design and gilt lettering. Spine and corners bumped. This is the true first edition. Note the typo on the contents page: THE LIT LE BIRD AND THE BLACKSMITH. Front board beginning to unhinge (front endpaper separating). Inscription to PO on endpaper: To Edith From Emerson July 1910. Mark on front cover just to the right of the word "by". Gilt lettering and black design on spine are still fine; swastika marks are visible but faded. Gilt at top of pages is fading. Tiny stain on title page beside the author's name. Flyspeck on contents page. Picture facing page 98 has small fold on bottom right corner of page (paper folded over; photograph itself unaffected). This book is scarce in this edition in this condition. 206p. plus endppapers. Each page has a beautiful India design border. Frontispiece is photo of author (original tissue cover still present, tissue beginning to fox at edges. Pages are tight, some browning but the book is still in extremely good condition. 16 illustrations. .
