A country manor house mystery, the book reintroduced Detective Hercule Poirot (a character that Christie did not like and whose appearance in this novel she particularly disliked) after he had been absent from her novels for about four years. In the novel, Dr. John Christow and his wife plain wife, Gerda, among others, are invited by Lucy Angkatell to spend the weekend at her country house, The Hollow. On the morning set for their departure, Christow allows his young daughter to tell is fortune with cards. Her drawing of the death card matters not to to the unfaithful husband, but then....... One of Poirot's more challenging cases. A very nice copy of a classic Christie mystery.
