The Two Towers : Being the Second Part of the Lord of the Rings by Tolkien, J. R. R
1st U.S. edition, 13th printing
Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company See photos. 1st U.S. edition. 13th printing (so stated on copyright page). No date (but early-mid 1960s). Fine condition in a bright Very Good dust jacket (a touch of rubbing/wear at the corners and spine ends, one tiny 3mm chip, slight fade to the spine). See photos. NOT price-clipped ($5.95). NO tears. NO creases. The white parts of the jacket (primarily on the edge of the rear panel) show just a little sun-browning. Protected by a removable Brodart clear-plastic sleeve. The book itself is beautiful -- bright, clean, square, and tight. Sharp corners. NO owner's name or bookplate. NO remainder mark. Pages are bright creamy white, fresh and crisp -- probably never read. NO foxing. The blue-green Walter Lorraine- illustrated dust jacket is identical to that issued with the 1955 first printing, except for a $5.95 price on the front inner flap (instead of $5.00). Just like the first printing, the dust jacket has W. H. Auden quotes on both front and rear panels. See Hammond/Anderson p. 100. Tipped to the rear endpaper is the original map of Middle-earth, printed in black and red on a neatly folded sheet. The map is in Very Fine condition. Bound in the original blue cloth, lettered in shiny gold on the spine and front cover. This 13th printing of THE TWO TOWERS is said to be the final printing of the 1st US Edition. 1st U.S. edition, 13th printing . Hardcover. Fine condition/Very Good dust jacket. Illus. by Lorraine, Walter (jacket art); J.R.R. Tolkien (map). 8vo. 352pp.
