Large quarto, xxxiii, erata, 309 pp., 43 plates as called for; with engraved leaf of dedication containing a copper-plate engraved coat of arms at head, a sepia aquatint fold-out chart with 3 sepia aquatint views, an aquatint colured plan (p.60) and 40 beautiful sepia aquatint views with tissue guards. 3/4 leather, expertly rebacked with new leather spine with 5 bands and guild type. Original marbles boards preserved with matching design marbled papers edges. Bookplate of previous owner. Very clean inside, no foxing. Very Good+. , Engraved armorial bookplate Clonbrock on front pastedown. Luke Dillion, Lord Clonbrock, Baron Clonbrock of Clonbrock in the (Irish) county of Galway, succeeded his father, Robert the late Lord. Born April 1780, Lord Clonbrock, scion of a prominent Irish family from Galway, was a Member of Parliament; he died in 1826., In 1798 Willyams served as Chaplain of the Swiftsure, a ship in the squadron which Nelson commanded. He was present at the battle of the Nile and he is " the first, the most particular,and the most authentic account of the battle" according to Dictionary of National Biography. The plates are after drawings by the author and include a plan of the battle, in addition to views of Sicily, Egypt, Gibraltar, etc. Contains the first, the most particular, and the most authentic account [of the Battle of the Nile], DNB., together with observations from visits to Naples, Florence, Venice, Alexandria, Rhodes, Sicily and Gibraltar. Willyams, a topographer and artist, made the drawings and paintings which are reproduced in the book in a series of splendid aquatints when he served as chaplain on board the Swiftsure.
