SIGNED by the decorator/illuminator Evelyn Paul. A superb Art Nouveau-era edition of the 13th century French love story of Aucassin and Nicolette. A chantefable in the form of sung verse, music and prose. Lavishly decorated in Medieval style with illuminations, colored initials, decorative page borders and drawings by Paul. Also illustrated by 13 stunning, mounted colour plates by Bocher. More than 20 pages of printed music. A wonderfully produced book with copious decoration throughout. 120, (4) pages, including plates and colophon. Small quarto, approx. 24.5 by 19 cm. (9.5 by 7.5 inches.) Full vellum binding with gilt lettering and decoration, accented in colour. Illuminated title page and facing half-title. Gilt top page edge. Decorative endpapers. Very nice condition. Clean and unworn with slight bump to lower front board, and bowing of the covers typical of older vellum bindings. When laid flat, the book yawns open at the fore-edge. Sound, tight binding and secure inner hinges. No prior owner signatures, bookplates or other markings. In all, a lovely and well-preserved book.
