Book description: Philadelphia: J. B. Lippincott, 1960. First edition (second impression). Very Good. A Very Good or better copy (very light sunning to spine, a slight lean, mildly canted, and rather light general wear) of the First Edition, second impression, of Lee's Magnum Opus, her only novel, WITH A SPECIAL AND RARE INSCRIPTION AND SIGNATURE BY LEE. This is an Extremely Rare copy: While genuine signed copies of the first edition of this work are hard to find, the signature found in this copy is quite rare and and much more difficult to obtain. This copy is INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY Lee as follows: "To Lula and Ralph / with my best wishes / Nelle Harper". Lee's full name is Nelle Harper Lee and this copy was inscribed by her to personal friends who were close to her and to her family (thus the less formal, and very rare, signature). Lee's father and Ralph Lee Jones (one of the inscribees) were law partners. The inscribees' daughter and Nelle Harper Lee were cousins, grew up in Monroeville, and attended school together. Befitting the close family and small town ties, this Association copy contains a photo (perhaps cut from a publication), a newspaper clipping of a photo and short article about Lee giving a talk on creative writing at the local High School, and a typed quote, all pasted to the endpapers. Fittingly, the book is also signed "Ralph and Lula Jones / July 1960". Together with a signed letter of authenticity from the granddaughter of the inscribees. An EXTREMELY RARE ASSOCIATION COPY of Lee's famed, somewhat autobiographical, novel, perhaps the greatest book of the Twentieth Century, SIGNED "NELLE HARPER" and given by Lee to a family known to her all of her life. Housed in a custom leather fold-over case. A truly rare opportunity to own a special copy of this novel, owned by those who would have been quite familiar with the autobiographical components of the story.
