Book desription: N.p., 1893. Fine. 16-1/2 x 11-3/4 inches image area. Oil on board framed, overall size 26 x 22 approximately Signed and dated lower right "H. Pyle '93" The picture shows an older man dressed in a blue coat and hat with buckled shoes and a cane in his hand talking with a young girl dressed in a red undeskirt with an overdress of ribbed silk, lace collar, carrying her large coneshaped straw hat in one hand and a basket in the other. The fore and background suggest a garden with flowering trees. The illustration was done for "January and May" by W.W. Gilcrest and appeared in Scribner's Monthly, December, 1893 .
