Book summary

In a response to the many journalists and other writers from across the political spectrum who, in recent books, have proposed nuclear energy as a viable alternative to the use of oil or coal, Helen Caldicott presents a strong case to the contrary. Dr. Caldicott's point-by-point rebuttal addresses the true costs of nuclear power--safety issues (especially in an age of terrorism) and the harm to the environment, among others. She also refutes what she sees as baseless and outlandish claims made in favor of nuclear power, e.g. that it is "green," or friendly to the environment. A founder of the group Physicians for Social Responsibility, Dr. Caldicott has long been in the forefront of educating the public to what she sees as the dangers of nuclear power and the threat of extinction.
