Book desription: London: Ernest Nister, 1894. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Ada Dennis et al. Contains four double page, four level chromolithograph pop-ups. These pop-ups are absolutely wonderful - an army of toy soldiers, a farm yard scene, a Punch and Judy scene and a cat family around the dinner table. Interestingly, one element of the Punch and Judy scene is the same illustration as the front cover for the Punch and Judy shape book, also published by Nister in 1894. In Hunt, p. 316. Montanaro p. 220. 25x20 cm; 26 pp. Corners worn, some grubbiness to boards. Replacement red cloth back strip and ffep [with original paper]. Strips of same paper placed along front / rear hinge lines. Two tiny soldier heads missing and a couple of replacement pop-up supports [not visible]. Pop-ups work fine and this is a very good example of a quality Nister. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
