New York: Harper & Brothers 1st American Edition, 1936 ----------hardcover, no dust jacket. The uncommon first US edition, only 500 (or 1000, sources differ) copies printed. The first edition was published by Gollancz in the UK the previous year, 1935, and this book uses the sheets of the UK first edition. The book is incorrectly titled The Clergyman's Daughter on the spine, and correctly titled A Clergyman's Daughter elsewhere. The book is in blue cloth on boards, with off-white design to the front boards, and off-white lettering and design to the spine. The off-white design and lettering has likely faded from the original pink, although the book is not sunned, and the lettering and design are clear and distinct. The book has modest bumps to the spine extremities, is dusty on the top pages edge, has minor staining to the boards, has the former owner nameplate (and 1938 date) on the front endpaper, and is a very solid VG to VG+ copy.
