Book description: New York: Franklin Watts, Incorporated. Near Fine with no dust jacket. 1988. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. Very good, with minimal shelf wear. NOT an Ex-Library book. ; First Books; 23 cm.; 96 pages; Grade 6 Up A good introduction to the field of undersea archaeology. Despite a reader-friendly presentation of technical terms that are well defined in context, the overall readability of this book is higher than its format would suggest. It looks like a book for upper elementary students because of its size, ample photographs, and short chapters. However, most of those students would find it difficult to read independently. The history of undersea archaeology is explored, and Jacques Cousteau and his contributions are discussed in a separate chapter. The explorations of several famous sunken ships are each discussed in separate chapters. Because of this arrangement and the index, portions of this book could be suitable for various research projects. Many will find the chapter on searching for the remains of the destroyed space shuttle particularly interesting. A quick look at the future of undersea archaeology is included as is a very limited glossary of technical terms. The photographs are in black-and-white; Discusses the use of new technology in efforts to retrieve artifacts from the ocean floor, the exploration of shipwrecks such as the Vasa, Mary Rose, and Titanic, and the recovery of the Challenger spacecraft. Grade 6 & Up .
