CONTES DE NOURRICE ET HISTOIRES DE BRIGANDSby Delaw, George & D' Indy, VincentFirst edition
Paris: Adrien Sporck, 1903. First edition. Hardcover. Good. Delaw, George. Linen spine, decorated paper on boards. Oblong Octavo. Color illustrations throughout. Corners bumped and rubbed (including top and botom of spine cloth), paper on board edges a bit tattered. Long pencil notation on endpaper. Binding a bit loose, but all pages present. Outer and inner hinges intact. Paper on boards somewhat darkened with age and dust. Page edges have somewhat darkened and yellowed. Remarkably good condition for its age. Charming children's book with music by Vincent D' Indy inset into the text with tablature. Delaw (a nom-de-plume for Georges Deleau) was a well-known character on the Parisian bohemian scene of the time, hanging out at the Chat Noir with the likes of Toulouse-Lautrec. He is listed as part of the anachist movement of the time, probably more by association than actual involvement. He was also known as a studied folklorist, probably the source of inspiration for his children's books. D' Indy was well-known in the Parisien Opera scene before the war. It was relatively rare at the time to have color illustrations in books, so these had to have been meant for the children of the Haute-Bourgeosie.
