London: Pickering & Chatto, 1887. Limited ed. Leather Bound. Good. John Ashton. #29 of 100 on large paper. Half vellum, green paper on boards. Overall condition is Good; corners are bumped and scuffed through; vellum spine is darkened; paper on boards is generally dusty, soiled and darkened at the top. Vellum at spine hinge on back board is blotchy. Numerous black and white woodcuts throughout, with very fine chapter decorations. A fine example of the return to fine letterpress printing during the Arts and Crafts era from the Chiswick Press of C. Whittingham and Co. John Ashton not only edited the book, but also illustrated it. An evocation of the exploration texts of the Crusades period.
