Book description: Published by the author, The T. Nelson Downs Magical Co., 4 St. Alban's Place, Regent Street, London, S.W., 1900. Hard cover, red buckram lettered in gilt and black, with silver coin showing author's head in centre of front board, and silver coins on spine, small 8vo, 244pp + 4-page index + 29 pages of fascinating advertisements, all magic-related, some for the author's products and some for other advertisers including Hamleys at their original premises in New Oxford Street. First Edition. 150 illustrations are claimed on the cover, although there actually 87 numbered illustrations in the book. This book really does reveal the secrets of every coin manipulation trick you could imagine - and a whole lot more, although you do need a lot of practice before some of them can be performed. Condition: cover G+; hinges excellent inside and out; contents VG+; INSCRIPTION BY THE AUTHOR on front endpaper: "With compliments of Season, T. Nelson Downs". There is also a facsimile signature of the author printed under his frontispiece portrait, which matches the real signature quite closely (but not too closely!) There are also rubber stamps inside front and back covers of No. 135 (Reigate and Redhill Squadron) Air Training Corps, and a crossed-out gift inscription dated 1923. Unfortunately some of the ink from the rubber stamp on the front pastedown has set-off on the author's autograph, but the signature can nevertheless be easily discerned.
