Max Brand: The Big "Westerner"by EASTON, ROBERT
Norman,: University of Oklahoma Press. Good. 1970. Hard Cover. 0806108703 . 330 pages, 8 plates, cloth, dj, ex-library with usual library markings, lacks rear blank endpaper otherwise very good. From the dj: This is a book about a man whose performance is almost unbelievable. A campus rebel at Berkeley two generations ago, a soldier, adventurer, magazine writer, poet, novelist, screen writer, and war correspondent. Frederick Faust (alias Max Brand, Evan Evans, George Owen Baxter, Peter Henry Morland, et al) did enough to satisfy a dozen ordinary men. Faust's best-known works, Destry Rides Again and the Dr. Kildare stories, were published under the pen name Max Brand. But had some twenty other pseudonyms. Hidden behind them, he published nearly thirty million words of fiction. His work was serious and popular, poetry and prose, wine and corn, highbrow and lowbrow, American and cosmopolitan. Few men have performed on so gigantic a scale; few if any have reached a wider audience. .
