A beautiful binding with the owner's initials painted on the front cover, and owner's signature on the ffep. Margaret Oliphant was a prolific 19th century author who began her career with submissions to the Blackwoods magazine. In 1859 she and her husband moved to Florence on account of her husband's delicate health but soon was forced to return to England upon her husband's death.
