Book desription: Windsor: Knight and Dredge, 1821. First edition. Ten issues of this college magazine bound in two volumes (complete), No. 1 states second edition but it still bears the date of 1821. Title pages with a center engraving of the king of clubs. Contemporary half brown morocco over marbled boards, smooth spines with gilt rules and red morocco lettering labels. Some of the marbled paper has come off but a very clean and tight copy. "W. M. Praed, while at Eton, edited the ten numbers of The Etonian; his pseudonym was 'Mr. Courtenay'. One of the contributors, who are all identified at the end of the tenth issue, was Henry Nelson Coleridge, Coleridge's nephew and brother of John Taylor Coleridge; his pseudonym was 'Gerard Montgomery'. It seems clear that Wordsworth knew the magazine; on 13 March 1821 he wrote to Crabb Robinson praisng a 'Youngster who writes verses in The Etonian , to some of which our Cumnerand Papre has introduced me, & some I saw at Cambridge'" (R/ Woof).
