Book DescriptionHardcover. Very Good. A complete 24 volume set in excellent condition, with 7 volumes issued by Merrill and Baker (New York) and 17 by Dana Estes & Co. (Boston). The volumes appear identical in all respects (see photos) except of course for copyright and title pages. For example, photos 2 and 3 show Poems vol.1 from Merrill and Baker while Poems vol.2 was issued by Dana & Estes. I believe they were printed and bound and the same time and at the same bindery with only the publisher information differing. Green cloth boards with gilded top edges; embossed gilt bust of Eliot in central medallion; spine ruled, decorated and lettered in gilt. CONDITION: Head/ tail of spines are slightly creased, bottom and fore-edges toned with a few very bright exceptions. Else bindings are solid, no markings or defects to text, overall an exceptional collection. Includes: Middlemarch I, II, III; Felix Holt I & II; Romola I, II, III; Scenes of Clerical Life I & II; Impressions of Theophrastus Such & Miscellaneous Essays (1 vol); DanielDeronda I, II, III; Poems I & II; SilasMarner, Lifted Veil & Brother Jacob (1 vol); Adam Bede I & II; The Mill on the Floss I & II; George Eliot's Life I, II, III.
