Book description: New York: The Owl Publishing Company, 1897. First edition. Wrappers. Near Fine. A Very Near Fine copy of "The Owl", Vol. III, No. 3, containing JACK LONDON'S FIRST PUBLISHED STORY. At the time, London was but an aspiring writer seeking to have his work published, but continually being rejected. Frustrated, London had gone off to the Klondike and remained there at the time that "Two Gold Bricks" was published (in September, 1897 on pages 43-48 of this issue of "The Owl"), totally unaware that his work had finally made it into print. This is an exceptionally nice copy of the magazine, with very minor wear and age toning. Each of the advertising pages (two in each of the front and rear) have been corner clipped. A remarkable survival in this condition, and a very important one at that as it was THE BEGINNING OF JACK LONDON'S CAREER AS AN AUTHOR. Fittingly, when this short work was published, he was in the Klondike from which, for him, would come not the riches in gold sought by others there, but instead the tales that brought him worldwide fame. A remarkable copy of the magazine containing JACK LONDON'S FIRST PUBLISHED STORY.
