The Key to Rebecca by Follett, Ken
First edition
New York: William Morrow and Company, Inc., 1980. First edition. Hardcover. Fine/fine. A Fine copy, in a Fine dust jacket (light age toning), of the First American edition, SIGNED BY KEN FOLLETT on the title page. In the midst of his research for "Eye of the Needle", Follett encountered the true story of Johannes Eppler, the Nazi spy. Eppler served as the inspiration behind Follett's Alex Wolff character, the novel's protagonist: a master spy seeking to steal British military plans in Northern Africa and to send them to General Rommel using a code buried within Daphne du Maurier's novel "Rebecca" (from which the title to this novel was derived). Interestingly, Eppler's story also served as the basis for "The English Patient" by Michael Ondaatje (1992) and for the 1996 Oscar-winning film of the same name. Signed copies are very scarce, and signed copies of the American First, especially in this condition, are exceedingly so. A Fine copy, SIGNED BY KEN F0LLETT.
