Book summary

In this Southern Gothic mystery, a contemporary woman, China Bayles, returns to her ancestral home, a Mississippi plantation called Jordan's Crossing, to help her mother care for her old great-aunt Tullie. When rakishly handsome neighbor Wiley Beauchamp is found murdered, the primary suspect turns out to be Tullie, whom Wiley had recently apprised of an ancient deed that appeared to give the Beauchamps ownership of Jordan's Crossing. China, who was a lawyer before she became a New Age herbalist, reluctantly delves into the extemely un-politically-correct history of Jordan's Crossing to try to get to the bottom of the murder mystery.
