Blue morocco, gilt back, with onlays of roses, gilt fillet line sides, doublures of brown morocco, with four onlays of roses on each, end-papers of flowered silk, gilt edges, binding by Marius Michel, Paris. Unique copy presented to publisher L. Conquet, featuring a lovely original watercolor by O. Cortazzo (of a man & woman at a table with champagne), signed by Cortazzo, with an inscription "A mon ami L. Conquet", also bound in is an original letter from Champfleury to Conquet, on stationary of the Sevres Porcelain Works , (where Champfleury was Chief of Collections), dated Jan. 1, 1888, in which he thanks Conquet for a year-end gift and wishes to add to Conquet's library. Signed by Conquet on page which states "Examplaire Offert a L. Conquet...L'editeur L.Conquet". In this special copy each plate is presented in three states; a trial proof, a proof before the letters, and the plate as printed in the regular edition. Bookplates of William Baylis, William Baylis junr., & Conquet on end-papers. Condition of the book is VERY GOOD +; Light stains at top edge of some pages, does not extend more than 1/4 inch onto any page. Other than that, text & illustrations are very clean, binding is tight. Very light wear at front edge of spine. Text in French.
