The painting is reproduced in colour, first as a whole, and then detail by detail: there are 24 plates in. a l l. Complementing the plates is a useful introduction, which summarises the artist's career and places the 'View of London' in ciritical perspective. The picture is a superb example of Canaletto's genius. Here is displayed the full richness o. f h is characteristic style: lucid, elegantly poised, with large panorama and intimate detail admirably balanced."
