Description

Random House, 1958. Hardback 1st Printing Good condition Some wear on boards, some fading on spine. Pastedown picture on front cover is slightly scuffed. Previous owner name on first free endpaper, else contents are fine and bright. Considered by some to be Inge's finest play. Inge describes it as his 'first cautious attempt to look at the past, with an effort to find order and meaning in experiences that were once too close to see clearly.' Play was produced on Broadway in 1957 starring Eileen Heckart, Pat Hingle and Teresa Wright and directed by Elia Kazan. Contains three pictures from the Broadway production plus the pastedown on front. Was later (1960) made into a Hollywood film. Tennessee Williams was the first to recommend the play be produced in earlier (1947) and unpublished version titled 'Farther Off From Heaven.'
