Red half morocco binding with blue marbled boards, gilt lettering on spine, end papers marbled, 4 raised bands, edges of text block lightly flecked in brown. Condition of the book is VERY GOOD+: light wear to covers and spine, front top corner and spine edges a bit more worn, boards a bit more worn, spine lightly darkened, top edge of text block darkened, pages white with light spotty foxing, binding tight, small bookplate of David. B. Ogden on inside of front cover, name of Gourveneur M. Ogden in ink on title page. NOTE: this volume is the very scarce 1st edition, 1st printing of the book now known as "English as She is Spoke", reprinted many times since most recently by McSweeney's.
