Beautiful tipped-in color plates of some of Australia's and New Zealand's most famous thoroughbreds. Heroic has the place of honor as the frontispiece, but there are color plates of Phar Lap, High Castle, Rising Fast, Wenona Girl, Shannon and many other famous Australian and New Zealand horses--51 of them, with details of blood lines, histories and races won detailed under each plate. There's also a section on "notable exceptions"--the horses who didn't make it into this book in full detail but who were also superb athletes. As new condition on this huge and heavy (17 lbs.) book which is bound in dark blue morocco leather and matching cloth with a crest design and printing in gilt, in an as new folding, matching slipcase, with ribbon pull.
