WW-1 Service History (Belgium & France) of 107th U.S. Infantry, 27th NYNG from activation to Unit's return home. ||| 2 CONDOLENCE LETTERS to parents of Corporal killed (posthumous DSC) 29 Sept. 1918. (1) From then-Capt. Andrews on pp. 1 & 4 of folded sheet: `all join me in heartfelt sympathy over loss of a fine friend, a gentleman, & a real soldier.' Pg. 4 has minor separation not affecting text; & (2) Sgt. Gurley: 1-1/2pp. on 2 sides of yellow ruled sheet. Both letters faded; age-soiled; but quite readable. ||| Andrews (1889-1949) also awarded DSC; Congressman 1931-49; Chair, 80th Congress House Armed Services Committee. ||| Dates & battlefields change--sadly, the letters do not. |
