A fictional answer to Twain's, "Innocents Abroad. his classic work while visiting Europe. The book chronicles the misadventures of two Brazilians, father & son, who came to N.Y. full of propaganda about how great a city New York is, circa 1870's. They quickly lose of all their notions, finding a dirty, crowded, & chaotic city, full of pickpockets, prostitutes, beggars, & miscreants. Along the way we get an interesting traveloogue of 1870's New York City with their impressions of principal buildings & institutions. The predominantly Irish NYC police come in for some tough abuse. Written in the same wry tone as Twain adopted. 5 humorous plates. A rare work.
