Manuscript title of notebook & 4 rubber stamps from Arquidiocesis De Popayan. 2 pg. ms. history of bishopric from 1851 to 1876 when Rada was appointed. Each page dbl. columns manuscript in Spanish listing each day in each month a particular mass was celebrated from July 1876 through October 1925. Each column for the month listing 20-31 masses (funerals?) & their names. Rada's own notebook record of masses he celebrated, probably hand-done by himself, possibly with aid of his Secretaries. With laid-in partially printed, partially manuscript, folio document dated Popayan, October 7, 1912, apparently an employment contract for the Secretary of the Arquidiocesis. Other side of document printed with ms. fill-ins refers to Alexandro Rada, detailed notice of his duities including festivals, masses, sacraments, marriages, attendance at conferences, Seminary duties, etc. In Spanish. Manuscript columns of notebook in clear dark ink script. Popayan, the city, was in the Andes mountains in south west Columbia, near Ecuador. It is in a beautiful part of the Andes at the foot of Mt. Purace in the mining region, lying between the Cordillera Occidental and Cordillera Central ranges of the Andes Mountains with an altitude of 5,700 feet. The bishopric obviously extended way beyond the city & was part of the larger archbishopric of Bogota. Popayan later became the center of Columbian supremo coffee which became the most recognizable & popular coffee in the world grown in the Andes. Regarding Alexandro Rada (information obtained from the 2pg. ms. translated Spanish history at the beginning) he was born in 1854, ordained in 1874, gave his first mass in 1876. In 1877 he was named clergyman of the 2nd division of the Regenator Army of the South. November, 1876 he was put in the jail dungeon, probably by the liberals. In 1877 exiled for protesting against the liberals. In 1878 became clergyman for the Bogota hospital. In 1881 named temporary father of the Popayan Church. A unique manuscript record by the priest of the city.
