This book was an inspiration for the evil Svengali-like hypnotists that began being featured in movies in the 1900s. 464 pages. The ffep has a piece torn out, like it was someone's name. The prior owner's name is stamped in the inside cover, about the size of a nickel, and also on page 1. The book is lavishly illustrated by the author's drawings. The cloth cover is brown; the front has 3 tiny brown spots and 2 small water spots. The back has a light ring stain, as though a cup were placed there. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
