Osgood first American and first English language edition of 1873. Taves & Michaluk V011. Described by T&M as "18mo", the issue is in fact 5.8" x 4.4", closest to 24mo. Green cloth, gilt imprinting on cover and spine. Flat brown endpapers, red dyed page edges. 291 pp. Sketch of Verne's yacht, Le Saint Michel, with his signature printed on cover and as tissue-guarded frontispiece. There are no other illustrations, although T&M seem to refer to this small, less expensive edition as having been intended as an illustrated edition affordable to the general public. A very early rendering of what was to become Around the World in Eight Days, in multiple editions and in cinema and song. Small 3/8" slit at spine top, corners lightly bumped, very light foxing at flyleaves, penciled previous owner's inscription. Hinges strong, frotn and back, with no sign of cracking. See scans. L14n

First American edition, first edition in English, first printing without translators name on title page. Measuring approximately 6" x 4.5" with 291 numbered pages. This book is in good condition. Moderate bumping and tear to both ends of spine. Gilt lettering and design on spine and front board still full and vivid. Heavy staining to both boards. Book is cocked causing an overbite to the textblock. Front hinge is cracked. Moderate foxing to interior pages. Phileas Fogg is a wealthy English gentleman living a solitary life in London.
