It traces the progress of a group of Gujarati Hindu and Bangladeshi Muslim women from the third trimester of pregnancy to six weeks after birth. The women's personal accounts are used to examine the relationship between socio-economic, cultural, and religious factors and their childbirth experiences. Tensions between medical and traditional approaches to care are explored. Katbamna received her PhD in Social Policy at Cranfield University, and currently works in the Nuffield Community Care Studies Unit at the University of Leicester. Distributed in by Taylor & Francis.
