Inscription on blank flyleaf states Christmas Present 1870, From Grandfather E.S. Hamlin to his Grandson Isaiah Stetson, bookplate inside front cover of Irving G. Stetson. One of the people the book is dedicated to is the boy Isaiah Stetson mentioned in the inscription, one of the children of Bangor, Maine who sent the author a black bear which suggested this story. .
