NF/VG; First Edition, stated; 276 pages, including index; Near Fine in light tan cloth with brown stripe, stamped in silver, illustrated endpapers, head and heel turned under from age, pages still supple, aging evenly but for an acid stain near the spine on the very last page, in a Very Good unclipped dustwrapper, bottom corners die-cut, and the code B.B.T.B. still present, general wear at the folds and points, a few very short tears along the top back, and one 1-1/2" closed tear at the bottom front.. First Edition. Hard Cover. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
dustwrapper : Another term for dust jacket, a protective and often decorative wrapper, usually made of paper which wraps around the binding of a book.
spine : The outer portion of a book which covers the actual binding. The spine usually faces outward when a book is placed on a shelf. Also known as the back.
heel : The lower most portion of the spine when the book is standing vertically.
8vo : Short for Octavo, A book whose page size is approximately 8-10 inches tall. The size is based on a sheet of paper 25 inches by 38 inches, the size of paper traditionally used by book printers, which has been folded and cut into 16 pages..
Unfortunately often misunderstood to mean 8 volumes.
endpapers : The first and last two pages (verso and recto) from the front and back of a book.
Cloth : Generally refers to a hardcover with cloth covering the outside of the book covers.
closed tear : A tear in which no material has been lost.
