Washington DC, 1881 A handwritten 1881 letter, with drawings on the back page, from Union General Montgomery Cunningham Meigs, Quartermaster General, to General Cadwallander Colden Washburn in regards to a design for a machine, using electricity, for milling flour. Gen. Washburn was the founder of the company that was to become General Mills Corp. Postal cancellation on back of last page, as letter was originally folded into thirds for mailing without an envelope. Also included is a 1940's picture-postcard of the troop-ship- "USNS Gen. M. C. Meigs", and other up-to-date biographical clippings pertaining to Meigs and Washburn.. Signed by Author. Near Fine. Illus. by Illustrated. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
