XXII pages of colour lithographic plates, reproducing "12 of a series of 54 nineteenth-century Indian paintings depicting scene. s from the story. The main text of the book is a translation of Kalidasa's play, probably written during the late fourth or early fifth century. This is followed by prose translations of the earlier versions of the tale which appears in the 'Ma. h a b harata', and of Abanindranath Tagore's Bengali version, first published in 1895; the two prose versions are here published in new translations, while the play is in Coulson's English version of 1981." Slipcase has very light rubbing, tiny soi. li ng s peck on one side panel and on rear panel. Fine/Very Good+.
