New York: Scribner's, 1936. First edition. A near very good copy with shelfwear to boards and general wear, although tight. Dust jacket is good only with wrinkling to corners, a little soiling to back and chipping to spine ends.
boards : Common term for the covers of a hardbound book.
dust jacket : A protective and often decorative wrapper, usually made of paper which wraps around the binding of a book.
spine : The outer portion of a book which covers the actual binding. The spine usually faces outward when a book is placed on a shelf. Also known as the back.
chipping : A defect in which small pieces missing from the edges.
tight : Used to mean that the binding of a book has not been overly loosened by frequent use.
soiling : Generally refers to minor discoloration or staining.
shelfwear : Minor wear resulting from a book being place on, and taken from a bookshelf, especially along the bottom edge.
