LARGE PAPER COPY 4to, 340mm x 275mm (13" x 11"). pp. viii, 288. Fine hand coloured aquatint title vignette and 48 hand coloured plates after drawings by Fielding and Walton. Later morocco reback, spine gilt in 5 compartments, contemporary slightly scuffed boards, plain endpapers. Slight text offsetting onto some plates (as usual). This wonderful work was completed following a two year tour by Fielding & Walton in the English Lake District. The volume describes aspects of life in the area, the unique scenery, history, antiquities, habits and customs of the local people. The plates are dated between May 1820 and April 1821 and depict typical Lake District views and scenes including Grasmere, Rydal Water, Coniston, Keswick, Windermere, Ambleside, Patterdale, Penrith and Cockermouth.
