Black buckram with silver gilt lettering on spine and front board. Errata slip laid in between last preliminary and page 1. Many pages are still left unopened on the top edge. The extremities are showing mild wear. There is a noted hinge weakness between pages 48/49 - the cloth is showing though the overall binding remains quite tight. Altogether quite a presentable copy in spite of the noted defects. The dedication page (in Latin) pays homage to Hugoni Edmundo Ford as a father and a friend. Ford was the abbot (?) of Downside Priory and Thorold refers to himself as son and friend. Downside was a Basilian foundation. A clear and removable archival cover has been fitted. .
