Description:
Very Good 1714, Hamburg Germany. The first ever printing of this seminal classic. The first time that Bible stories were printed specifically for children. Thus it was somewhat "cleansed" before publication. One source I found says that the incest and murder committed by David were altered, among other things. It is four inches by seven inches, and includes 104 plates from engravings, 52 in the Old Testament, and 52 in the New Testament. There are 400 pages of text, plus the eight page introduction. Also, all the plates are on unnumbered pages, for a total of 512 printed pages. The book is in its original calves leather boards and spine, which are still attached but fragile. All pages, including all front and rear endpapers, are present. The last two plates have been repaired at the edges, and several pages inside have edge tears or stains, but they are minimal. There is the expected foxing throughout, and a former owner name and inscription in pencil at the front and a name alone in pencil at the…

Oxford: Printed by T. Wright and W. Gill ..., 1770. Not paginated. A8-3C5, †A8 -†M4, 3D8-3S6. Thick octavo. Contemporary unlettered red morocco, spine gilt extra, covers with gilt roll of vines at edges, with oval black morocco central inlay with the sacred monogram and cross within a gilt sunburst, a.e.g. , marbled endsheets. Vertical crack in spine, with shallow losses at crown and toe, front binder's blank detached (but present), rear inner hinge cracking after free endsheet, some wear to joints and forecorners; still, a good, internally fresh and crisp copy. An attractive octavo printing, including the Apocrypha. Wright and Gill printed an edition in folio the same year. A highly likely association copy of some interest, signed on the front binder's blank "Sarah S. Villiers 1804" (probably Sarah Sophia Child-Villiers, 1785-1867, Countess of Jersey), and with the earlier signature of "Sarah Child 1779" (her mother, Sarah Anne Child, 1764-1793). Sarah Childs married Lord Villiers on 23 May 1804. As heir to Child's Bank and to the property at Osterley Park, she brought considerable resources to the marriage and was engaged as an active partner at the bank. She exerted influence in political circles and was prominent socially, sufficient to provide models for fictional characters in novels by Disraeli and Lady Caroline Lamb. ESTC T91638. Description:
1587 Apocrypha Old Testament Holy BIBLE Vulgate Latin Kings Chronicles Job Tobit An extremely rare and rather unknown 16th-century portion of the Old Testament. Bibles from this era are notoriously rare and have maintained their desirability through centuries. This particular issue is curious – a complete book in itself containing (per the title page) only the books of Kings, Chronicles, Esdras (i.e. Ezra, Nehemiah and Esdras), Tobit, Judith, Esther, and Job. It is unclear who the editor of this Vulgate Bible is; however, the USTC places it published somewhere in Germany in 1587. Still, a very rare and desirable 16th-century Bible.

Description:
1547 Saint Anselm of Canterbury BIBLE Epistles of Paul Benedictine Scholasticism"I believe in order that I may understand."
– Anselm of Canterbury
Saint Anselm of Canterbury was an 11th-century Benedictine monk and philosopher. While Anselm was relatively unknown and unrecognized for his philosophical views during his lifetime, he has since been considered the founder of scholasticism and writing about the existence of God in an academic manner rather than purely theological. The ODCC refers to Anselm as being 'the most luminous and penetrating intellect between St. Augustine and Thomas Aquinas…and the father of scholasticism'. Many of his writings set the stage for a European period of innovating logic, ethics, mysticism, and metaphysics.
This 1547 printing of the works of Anselm features his commentary on the Epistles of Paul.

Tan leather heavily embossed with fruit, leaves and grain with the title on the front board and the spine. A personal Bible of outstanding artistry Beautifully bound and tooled editionThe Bible is a collection of religious texts, writings, or scriptures sacred in Christianity, Judaism, Samaritanism, Islam, Rastafari, and many other faiths. It appears in the form of an anthology, a compilation of texts of a variety of forms that are all linked by the belief that they are collectively revelations of God. These texts include theologically-focused historical accounts, hymns, prayers, proverbs, parables, didactic letters, admonitions, essays, poetry, and prophecies. Believers also generally consider the Bible to be a product of divine inspiration. Those books that are included in the Bible by a tradition or group are called canonical, indicating that the tradition/group views the collection as the true representation of God's word and will. A number of biblical canons have evolved, with overlapping and… Read More
