New York: Random House, 1943. Hardcover First edition The author's first book a collection of stories some originally published in the NYer where he would become a staple for more than four decades. One of the great short story writers of the century, Cheever would not allow most of these to be reprinted. A very good copy, with some tanning and wear to the extremities, owners name on ffep; in a not quite very good dust jacket with pieces missing from head and tail of the spine (as deep as 3/4"). Still a very presentable jacket (minor age toning, not price-clipped, minimal wear to the front panel) and copy of an important and uncommon book.
