Translated from the original French by Monsignor Philip E. Hallett with a Preface by Rev. Vernon Johnson. M. L'Abbe A. Combes was a Doctor of Theology and professor of ascetical and mystical theology and of the history of Christian Spirituality at the Institut Catholique de Paris, and also Master of Research in the Centre National de la Récherche Scientifique. Contents: "A Desire to Suffer"; "The Attraction of Suffering"; "The Novitiate of Suffering" and "Peace Through Suffering". Footnotes. The book has mild shelf wear to the externals and a blacked out previous owner's name on the front free and the back paste down end papers. The dust jacket is quite worn on the head edge with old tape (long gone) repairs having been made on the inside. .
