London: Hughes, 1863. "Second and Revised Edition". Hardcover, 16mo, brown leather-covered boards with double gilt borders, raised bands, leather title label & gilt lines to spine. Marbled endpapers; 243 pages. 2 fold-out maps, plus b/w plates. Book is a compendium of facts about Jersey designed for the mid-19th-century tourist; included are sections on the island's history, places of interest, lack of taxation, transport, down to the price of groceries (itemised in detail), boatmen's fares, etc.etc.; also a chapter on Climate & Diseases of Jersey, by Dr. Scholefield, & Botany, by C.R. Saunders. Binding is very sound; exterior leather is glossy & in good condition, but somewhat spotted, with rubbing to extrems. & one small old surface tear. Spine title label clear & complete. Front fly-leaf has minimal foxing, old ink initials & number, & a Victorian poem pasted in; the rest of the interior has some toning to some top margins, but is clean & unmarked.
