Short closed tear at crown and base of spine (barely visible, at edge of spine, where it joins front cover), front cover has light, uneven tanning at top edge, covers have a few small faint brown soil spots, else a very good copy, with the text quite fresh and clean. . [Tabor A2a; preceded only by two pamphlets]. Octavo, tan (cream-colored) wrappers printed in black on spine and front cover, 88 pages. Front cover states: "(Not For Sale)/ UNCORRECTED PROOF COPY/[rule]/ THE COLOSSUS/ Sylvia Plath/[rule]." Laid into the book is a publisher's slip, one (12mo) sheet, printed on recto only, on William Heinemann letterhead, dated "15th August 1960," with typed title, "Publication date: 3rd October 1960...". Tabor states that the book was published on October 31, 1960, four weeks later than the "3rd October 1960" date listed on the publisher's slip [N.B.: bibliographer describes the proof, but does not mention the publisher's slip, with the earlier publication date].
