DescriptionNew York: Talk Miramax Books/Hyperion Books for Children, 2001. There has been a lot of hype about this one -- the first of what was originally supposed to be a trilogy (but has gone somewhat beyond) destined to hit the big screen -- with some folks going so far as to annoint it the successor to J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter books. Be that as it may, it's a dandy little story about an evil twelve-year-old high-tech criminal mastermind who gains access to a copy of the book of the fairies, said tome containing the history of the fairy race and the commandments by which they live, and said information crucial to the young criminal's scheme to exploit the fairy race. And lest anyone think "fairy" means the likes of Tinkerbell, in this one it means, among other things, gun-toting mercenaries with more guts than Dick Tracy, and fewer scruples than your average used car salesman (and if a used car salesman is reading this, I mean all the other guys). An unread copy. (A word about our grading: Fine -- or, sometimes, As New -- is our highest grade, and it's down from there. "Mint" is a word referring to a delightful flavour or an imposing edifice where coins are produced. It may be acceptable where baseball cards or comic books or coins and the like are concerned, but it has no place in the terminology and protocols of the book world. Never has. No place whatsoever. None. Zero.). 1st US edition. Hard Cover. As New/As New. Octavo -- from 7.75" to 9.75" Tall. |
